Outside Witness List: January 12, 2006 (or later)

http://www.TimothyHorrigan.com/

On January 9, 2006, the leaders of the Senate Judiciary Committee issued a list of the outside witnesses for the Alito confirmation hearings. According to the original schedule, Senators Leahy & Specter were hoping to get Alito's own testimony out of the way within two days.

I went and Googled most of the witnesses. One relatively little-known witness is worth mentioning because she is being used by the Republicans to illustrate the (supposed) futility of the anti-Alito effort. The pro-Alito Republicans have been making frequent vague references to a Kerry campaign lawyer who has endorsed Alito. She supposedly epitomizes a (nonexistent) wave of grassroots liberal support for Alito's nomination. Her name is Kate Pringle and she is a Partner with Friedman, Kaplan, Seiler and Adelman LLP in New York City. Ms. Pringle did do some work for the Kerry for President campaign in 2004, and also for Florida Democrats in 2000, but she never actually joined either Gore's or Kerry's campaign staff. And she has an understandable personal reason for endorsing Alito: she served as one of his law clerks after graduating from the Georgetown Law Center in 1993.
